Our trip from Bodhgaya to Varanasi was a bit of a disaster. All twelve of us planned to take a 2:00 pm train. A lot of us were running a bit late, though, and what with the chaos of buying tickets and finding the correct platform, and the added confusion of an afternoon rainstorm, seven students barely managed to reach the platform in time to hop on the train that was rolling out of the station ….
Except that it was the wrong train!
The other five of us waited another ten minutes until the correct train arrived (it was running a bit late itself). We were riding third class, which meant a fifteen minute battle to find space for our luggage, with little hope in finding places for ourselves. Nancy ended up in a luggage rack with three other people, Hillary sat on one of Nancy’s bags on the floor. I stood for the entire four hours.
Suffice it to say, it was a long day.
